Tracking and Reports

Why does an email show as opened twice?

Understand mobile client behavior and our built-in deduplication.

Who this is for

  • Users confused by seeing multiple 'opened' events from the same device.
  • Teams wanting to ensure their report accuracy is reliable.
  • Account owners auditing their outreach data quality.

Before you start

  • Remember: some email apps (like Gmail on mobile or Outlook) 'pre-fetch' images to speed up loading.
  • Pre-fetching can trigger a tracking pixel before the user even taps the email.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. PitchTrack uses a 5-second deduplication engine for every email sent.
  2. If an email app triggers an open and then another one within a few seconds from the same device, we ignore the duplicate.
  3. This protects your stats from being inflated by mobile background processes.
  4. You only see a second open if the recipient actually re-opens the email later or on a different device.

How to verify success

  • Open reports show unique, actionable events rather than noise.
  • Mobile opens are counted accurately without double-counting background loads.

Common mistakes / troubleshooting

  • If you still see multiple opens, it usually means the contact actually opened it several times or forwarded it.
  • If tracking feels 'too quiet', ensure your recipients have 'load images' enabled in their email client.

What to do next

  • Focus your follow-up on contacts with high unique open/click rates.
